The Reading Rocks program has come to an end for the 2009 School Year. We are proud to announce that Rachel D. was a lucky winner for the KLUC grand prize. This year over 10,000 completed cards were submitted to KLUC for the grand prize drawing. Rachel won a backpack filled with prizes such as an iPod. Come join Rachel at the Clark County Library (1401 East Flamingo Road) on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 5:30pm as she attends an Reading Rocks awards banquet.
On Friday, December 11th those who completed thier cards at Escobedo were invited to the Wii Rock Band Party in the library at lunch. We ate lunch, enjoyed popcorn and play the Wii Rock Band Game. Congratulations to those who read at least three books and submitted their summaries on this blog. This year we had 197 book summaries submitted. Way to go Boxers!
Remember, you can still participate in the Reading for Laptops Program until May 1st. Good luck!

Name: Taylor O.
Date: December 14, 2009
Title: Returnable Girl
Author: Pamela A. Lowell
Genre: Relationship, Family, Adoption
Brief Summary: Thirteen year old Ronnie’s mother left her at a very young age so she could move to Alaska with her boyfriend. Ronnie has been put into foster care until a permanent home is found for her. She gets phone calls from her mother every few weeks or so explaining how things with her brothers are in Alaska and how long it should be until Ronnie gets out of foster care and goes to move in with her mother and new boyfriend. Ronnie has been returned to the foster care place many times because of her recklessness and her stealing and lying. Alison, Ronnie’s current foster mother is the only one who can deal with it. Ronnie changes how she acts because she knows that Alison is her only chance of keeping a real family and not, once again, being abandoned.

During our last library lesson, we discussed how the books are arranged on the shelves. Click the link below to play the Order in the Library Game:

If this is something you like and you’re a 6th or 7th grader, you may consider being a library aide next school year.
