I’m excited to start my 3rd year as your librarian at Escobedo Middle School! This past summer I was fortunate to have the opportunity to spend time with my family, get caught up around the house, go on a few vacations, and read some books. What did you do over the summer? Did you read any good books? I have to say that my favorite book that I read this summer was One for the Money.
The bookfair is in full swing. All ELA classes will be visiting the bookfair. At that time you can browse and/or shop. For more details checkout the Scholastic Bookfair blog post with a link to our bookfair webpage.
Our library classes will be starting up soon but if you need a SSR (silent sustained reading) book, come by the library before/after school or during any lunch. Come by and say “hi” or if you are new, introduce yourself. I can’t wait to see everyone!

Congratulations to Jose I. who represented Escobedo MS at the 2010 CCSD Bristlecone Storytelling event. It took place on Monday, May 10th at 6pm at the West Charleston Library. Jose did a great job retelling the folktale The Fishermans Wife!

Save the date: Friday, May 21st from 6:30-10:00pm. Escobedo will host its third Crystal Palace Skate Night. Admission is $8.00 and includes: a slice of pizza or hot dog, drink, skate rental, and a night of family fun. Hope to see you there…

Just a reminder that the last day for book check-outs for the 2009-2010 school year will be May 14th. This will give Mrs. Baca two weeks to complete inventory and the end of the year procedures. You will be responsible for providing your own SSR book for class so you may want to purchase a book at the Scholastic bookfair or visit the Clark County Library after May 15th. The Scholastic Boofair is will take place May 3rd- May 14th. It will be open from 7:30-2:45pm daily. We will also have a Family Night on May 13th from 5:30-6:45pm (before the Beauty and the Beast play).

Our Escobedo Poetry Jam was a success. Thank you to those who participated. The poems were awesome! These students will be representing Escobedo at the 5th Annual CCSD Poetry Jam on April 26th from 6 to 8pm.
